Description

From the Cortes Family Palenque and the artful hand of Don Vale himself. This is a restrained, well balanced Karwinskii. Often super intense and punchy, this has all the aromatics and herbaceousness but with a generous fruit to it, which gives it a dangerous level of drinkability. This is a bottle that will easily disappear if you take your eye off it.

Origen Raiz Madrecuishe is produced in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca by maestro mezcalero Valentin Cortes. The Agave karwinskii are cooked in an underground pit oven, crushed by tahona, fermented in open air wooden tanks, and double distilled in copper stills.

Origen Raíz represents a partnership between two distinct sets of Mexican roots: the Saravia family of Durango, who have a long history of working to improve the local economy through business, and the Cortés family of Oaxaca, who contribute six generations of knowledge to the world of mezcal production. The families were brought together by their sons, Asis Cortés and Bildo Saravia, through cultural passion and respect for each other’s heritage.

AROMA: Herbaceous and green on the nose, but nice and restrained.
TASTE: Ripe strawberry & violet, green herb stems, with a touch of Campari-esque bitterness to finish.
ENJOY: Sipping mezcal is enjoyed slowly and with friends. Paired with smoked meats or bbq chicken.
