Description

El Jolgorio Espadin Mezcal is a traditional pit-roasted, mule-drawn tahona-crushed, open fermented, double-distilled mezcal from 100% semi-wild Agave Espadín (Agave angustifolia) harvested at 10 years of age, bottled at 47.8% ABV.

Each batch uses Espadin from different remote areas, and some batches have been aged many years in glass. Other batches are made with wild agave Espadin, which is quite different from the cultivated Espadin that is much more common. Be sure to check the bottle for batch details.

El Jolgorio is a range of artisanal mezcal from Oaxaca, made from a wide variety of rare, unique agave species. In Mexico, there are around fifty different species of agave used for mezcal production, each yielding a mezcal with its own distinct character. In 2010, the Cortés family began building a collective of top mezcal distillers from around Oaxaca, with the goal of sharing the true culture and spirit of mezcal with the world.

In all, El Jolgorio represents sixteen different families, working in ten different regions of Oaxaca, Mexico, each with its own special story. Every bottle is hand-marked with the specific details of each batch, to truly connect the drinker with the family behind the expression.

AROMA: Roasted agave on the nose
TASTE: Herbacious and green on the taste with a bit of citrus at the back. Still, very approachable like most espadins, but with a bit more intensity, perhaps because this is a wild espadin where most are cultivated.
ENJOY: Sipping mezcal is enjoyed slowly and with friends. Makes premium cocktails.
